PRE-GEN is an open standard, not a product. It belongs to no single company. Your support keeps it that way — protecting the rights of artists, creators, and rights-holders in the age of generative AI.
Why it matters.
Generative AI can already depict anyone — a person, an artist's style, a brand, a voice — without asking. The people most affected, independent creators and artists, are usually the ones with the least power to fight back. PRE-GEN exists to give them a way to say yes or no before anything is generated, and to prove it cryptographically.
For that protection to mean something, the standard has to stay open and neutral — free for anyone to implement, controlled by no single vendor. That independence costs money to maintain. That's where you come in.
Where your support goes.
Building and maintaining the tools that let creators, performers, estates, and brands register their identity and control how it is used in AI-generated content — at no cost to them.
Hosting the verification API, the opt-out registry, and the externally anchored audit log that AI providers query before generating. Servers, security, and uptime are an ongoing cost.
Keeping the Apache-2.0 reference code, SDKs, and documentation current — so any AI provider can integrate PRE-GEN without paying a licensing fee or depending on a single vendor.
Funding from the community means PRE-GEN doesn't have to sell out its neutrality to a single AI company. No privileged operator, no hidden agenda — the standard stays accountable to the people it protects.
Ongoing work to align PRE-GEN with the EU AI Act, GDPR, right-of-publicity law, and emerging regulation — plus research on detection and federation under the PRE-LEARN program.
